The first workshop of diffusion of the “Paraguayan Alto Chaco Model Forest” was held on March 4h, 2010 and a team from the Environmental Law and Economics Institute (IDEA) and the National Forest Institute (INFONA) visited Bahia Negra in the Department of Alto Paraguay to participate in such event.
The workshop was addressed at the local authorities and stakeholders from Bahía Negra, Ishir communities and private land owners. The main objective was to talk about the Alto Chaco Model Forest proposal, which will be presented by the National Forest Institute to the Latin-American Model Forest Network (RIABM) in July 2010.
The Model Forest may be defined as a process with a social base, in which groups represent diverse stakeholders that work together towards a common vision of sustainable development in a place where the forest plays the most important role.
This trip allowed for a narrower link between INFONA and the Bahía Negra City Hall authorities. This link will help carry out the Model Forrest Project and other initiatives which will be beneficial for the community. Both institutions also stated that they want to give continuity to the joint task of monitoring projects on changing soil use approved by INFONA.
